All existing insulation is vacuumed out and bagged. Batts are removed by hand and bagged. Nothing is left behind.

Homeowners often use “attic cleaning,” “attic cleanout,” and “attic restoration” to describe the same problem, but they usually mean different amounts of work. Here is how we scope each one.
The narrowest scope: getting material out. Old blown-in insulation is vacuumed, batts and loose debris are removed by hand, and everything is bagged and hauled away. This is the right starting point when the attic simply needs to be emptied — before a renovation, a re-roof, or new wiring.
The cleanout plus a proper look at what was underneath. Once the attic floor is exposed we inspect the joists, sheathing, and rafters for moisture staining, pest activity, and air leaks, then give you a written picture of the attic's actual condition rather than just an empty space.
The full sequence: clean the attic out, address what the inspection found, air seal the ceiling plane, and re-insulate to the depth the attic should have. Restoration is the appropriate scope when the attic is being brought back to working condition — not just emptied — and it is usually what homeowners mean when insulation has failed, pests have been in the space, or upstairs rooms are uncomfortable.
Not every attic needs the full sequence. After the cleanout we walk you through what we actually found and what we would recommend, so you can decide whether to stop at a clean attic or continue into new attic insulation and air sealing with spray foam.
Two things we will always flag rather than quietly work around: suspected vermiculite insulation, which Health Canada advises treating as potentially asbestos-containing until tested, and severe mould growth. Both need to be assessed before an attic is disturbed, not during.
